...the thresher starts up
no time to be lost
no sound to be echoed
or thrown away to the dogs
or the sunlit flowers cut off
as the thresher blossoms
returns to its eating
the wind has gone on its way
or is silent
transparent nostrils of wind
the shadows have folded and folded
over themselves in the mobius dance
of light and darkness darkness and light
and the crickets have not stopped
eating the crickets will not stop
eating their crafted echoes
to fill the long belly of night
until the umbrella of the moon
appears to them all and they rise
with all their voices
slowly the day descends
flowers crack open slow down
the abrupt mechanical sounds
and the natural sounds
roots that grasp for their sleep...
excerpt from Symphony, the Second Movement (moderato agitato coi molti cambiari di sentimenti)
